A Philadelphia native,Donita Elaine Vann..... better known as "nit" (NEAT) ,grew up in the historical and culturely rich hub known as Germantown. With it's own bustling avenues and parks, G-town(which it is affectionately known) was just bursting with color and style. It is this environment that captivated her. Add that to being surrounded by all the famous singers and jazz musicians, such as Gladys Knight and the Pips, who stayed at her house when they were in town performing at the Historic Uptown Theatre, she couldn't help but add her signature flair to the Philly streets. Designing clothes just comes natural to Donita. She has never had any formal training. Her mother, Doris Elaine Vann (with whom she shares the same middle name) was very creative when she was growing up. She always made the house look brand new with new flooring, a fresh coat of paint and velvet contact paper! People stop to admire her garden to this day. Donita started making her own clothes by reconstructing Thrift store findings or garments she created with a sewing needle and thread at the age of 14. She has since conquered every genre of media that has crossed her path, be it as a fashion stylist and designer for print, Seven consecutive layouts in Sister's in Style.Today's Black Women and Jet. etc. to television (MTV,NAACP Image Awards to name a few). Two auditions for Project Runway 2006 and 2007. She was told she could probably win the whole competition, but come back next year ? Recently featured in the February 2010 issue of MORE magazine with Nicole Miller. "The trip to NY was very exciting. However,I do wish they had mentioned my TWO auditions for Project Runway"! Donita is now starting a new journey into the exciting world of theatre and with a new line of clothing aptly called 'phillygurl' which is forward, fun and exciting-just like Donita! She is also working on a summer and fall collection which she calls her MICHELLE OBAMA COLLECTION, (just meaning what she would like to make for her), A Summer/Fall Full-Figure line 2010/2011.From the Philly streets to the streets in your part of the world...STAY TUNED,AND EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED....
